In my internet adventuring I stumbled upon an essay that discusses archaic robots, specifically Christian robots. The last sentence of the essay truly brings it all together, "To make full sense of this development, we must consider the world that preceded it. Before machines became mindless and rote, they were the life of the party." (Riskin). The essay is online here
