Echoing Clowes, Vonnegut, Marker, and More: Spike Jonze and Arcade Fire's THE SUBURBS
I like to start class with videos/songs that are 'kindrid souls/spirits' to the works/authors/artists we are studying in the big room; a couple of weeks back I played THE SUBURBS, a collaboration between Arcade Fire and director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich). The Ramones - Carbona Not Glue

Carbona Not Glue lyrics
Wondering what I'm doing tonight I've been in the closet and feel all right
Ran out of Carbona, Mom threw out the glue
Ran out of paint and roach spray, too
It's TV's fault why I am this way
Mom and pop wanna put me away
From the early morning movie to the late late show
After it's over nowhere to go
And I'm not sorry for the things I do
My brain is stuck from shooting glue
I'm not sorry for the things I do, do...
Carbona not glue,
Carbona not glue,
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

Hi Dr. Nericcio
FYI: I took pictures of this cat on a wall of structure 5 here at SDSU. This picture looks like Bansky's work. Don't know if anyone has sent them to you.

Professor Nericcio,
I thought you might enjoy this music video! :)
I agree with one of the comments, " the video really creates a unique new world to get lost in for 5 minutes, which is exactly what the song does. Makes me think of the great David Lynch and the unique worlds that he creates, finding the perfect marriage between picture and sound. Long live the arts!"

Class
From: Joseph Angeles
To: memo@sdsu.edu
I was doing some video surfing, when I came upon this video about the ending credits of the movie Revolver by Guy Richie. The movie is about the Ego/self and this video ties greatly to the idea of Ego and Robotic like control from our Ego's.. As well, can be tied to the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story that we read in class.. I couldn't find a place to post in your blog or mention this video, so I decided to just email you the link : ..... enjoy

Robotic, Erotic, Electric ARTkive Gallery Posting 43 | BANKSY
Good morning Professor Nericcio,
My name is Pamela Peredo. I am in your ENGL220 class, section "da ill-literate$" with Rebecca. I very much enjoy this class, and the culture and perspective you bring upon us.
Anyway, I was so glad you offered extra credit to the screening of Banksy's EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP because I have heard briefly of it, and really wanted to see it. Now having seen it, I am completely inspired- I wanted to make my own decal, then quickly remembered that graffiti was illegal- however, I will just readjust my plans to make it less crime worthy. I was researching Banksy a little and came across The Capturing Banksy Book Project. I couldn't help but notice that the dog in the picture kind of resembles your signature drawing/tag, which is pretty awesome. The Russian art group, Voina, mentioned is also pretty cool. I read that they do not accept any money or rewards because they want their art to be a gift to the world and not have a price on it.
Check it out
Have a good rest of the weekend,
Pam Peredo

Professor Nericcio,
My name is Kaitlyn Hoskins in your English 220 class. I am an avid Law and Order: Special Victims Unit watcher and I stumbled upon and interesting episode today that pertains to the robotic portion of the class. While the majority of the episode was the usual cheesy scenarios and forensic analysis, towards the end of it, it was found that the murderer had implanted an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip into his wifes shoulder to track her movements. The man is brought in for questioning where he says, "RFID is the wave of the future, in 15 years everyone will be implanted with a chip." The detective replies, "Really, where do I sign out of that?" The murderer then says, "The backwards attitude of the typical Luddite."
The episode is from season 8, episode 9 "Choreographed." The scene is about 30 minutes in. I watched it on Netflix so I'm not sure it can be artkive, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Also worth mentioning is that the murderer was Bob Saget, guest starring. Good laugh.
Thanks,
Kaitlyn Hoskins

Hey Dr. Nericcio,
I was surprised to not see any daft punk on the robotic erotic electric website. Not only do most of their videos relate to class in some way, but they are like the classic rock of the robot-like music era. So, here to change that I give you their music video for their song “technologic.” The video does a great job of portraying how the media makes us like uniform robots in how we go about living our lives; they lyrics say it all. Hope you like:
Sincerely,
Chris Pozil
Ps. if you like this I recommend you check out come other daft punk videos, they all kind of have a cool meaning parallel to our class. Some other good ones are “da funk,” “robot rock,” and “around the world.”
